An Estevan elementary school is leading the way in making plans for the school year's end.

Westview School, like the six others in Estevan, was forced to close its doors due to COVID-19.

Cheri Haberstock is the school's principal, she said it's going to look a lot different than most years.

"Each teacher is going to celebrate the end of the year with their classroom in their own way, but it has to be online."

At the moment teachers are brainstorming ideas on how they plan to make it special for their students, especially those moving on to ECS.

"As for the grade eights, we want to make it extremely special. We're having, much the same as we have every year, we'll have a face to face celebration with our grade eights, but it will be online instead.

The school has a special video prepared for their students showing pictures of them from the year and making sure they feel really special. They are also going to have teaching staff speak to each one of the kids that are moving on. They will end their ceremony by giving out the principal's award which is handed out each year.

Haberstock said it's very important to recognize these students and the hard work they have put in, regardless of how strange of a year it became.

"It was still a great year, and even though the end was a little different, we still learned a lot."
