Members of Estevan City Council met once again this week to review the City's 2008 Financial Plan.

City Manager Jim Puffault presented a number of suggested changes to the budget which would see overall spending go down by over $350,000.

These include decreases in the number of new staff positions created, partial completion of work on the Lignite Miners Centre parking lot, and waiting on the front parking lot design for the Leisure Centre.

Mayor Gary St. Onge estimates that the Financial Plan now shows a deficit of just $50,000 to $60,000, with City Council to continue discussion at its regular meeting on Monday.

Motions were presented to eliminate the purchase of laptops for City Councillors to make the switch to a paper-free system, as well as only doing partial work on the irrigation system at Torgeson Park, and partial repairs to the pool and library windows.

However, after significant discussion and a vote, all three motions were defeated, meaning those items will remain in the 2008 Budget.
