The thunderous sound of roaring engines filled the air Friday evening, as it was championship night at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Drivers jockeyed their cars around the track to try and squeeze out as many points as they could to nab a winning spot.

In the Hobby Stocks, Zach Lutz took the top of the chart with 337 points, followed by Landon Runge 11 points behind.

Hailling from Burlington, North Dakota, Lutz expressed that he had some jitters on the 6 hour drive to Estevan, but settled into his groove once on the track.

"When we came out and won the first feature here, I knew it was going to be a good year. However I didn't think it was going to be this good."

He gave a lot of the credit for his success to his grandfather, who gave him an early start in the sport.

Zach Lutz, from Burlington, ND took the 2017 Hobby Stock championship with 337 points.

In the IMCA Street Stock division, a hometown face not uncommonly seen in the winner's pit nabbed the title. Gregg Mann accumulated 382 points throughout the season, and he shared about his approach to the racing circuit.

"We always try to finish strong, in the last couple of years I've always been right there in the mix with those guys, shooting for second runner up or third in points. But during those years I always had at least two bad nights, and those really hurt you in the points. You really gotta keep it consistent, and try to keep it clean."

Estevan native Gregg Mann topped the Street Stock chart with 382 points to take the 2017 divisionchampionship.

For Joey Galloway, cool and calculated moves kept him a contender, and gave Manor, Sk driver the IMCA Modifieds division title with 372 points.

Although battling minor car issues throughout the season kept the checkered flag just out of reach, he gave consistency a nod as a contributing factor to his success.

"It was a really good year for us. You know, we never got a win here but we were never out of the top five. We just always seemed to come in second, so I'll definately take this."

In the Slingshots division, young Jesse Gibson of Estevan took first with 317 points.

The feature winners of the night included Jeremy Swanson holding on to a slim lead in the IMCA Street Stock, Leevi Runge grabbing the victory in the Hobby Stocks, and Riley Emmel crossing the finish line at the front of the pack in the IMCA Modified division. In addition, Ryder Raynard took care of the win in the Slingshots department.

Although the points racing season is over, the Speedway still has some action yet to take place, including a demo derby and the ever popular Enduro races.

Leevi Runge of Lampman, Sk took home the Hobby Stock feature win for the night.

During the intermission, kids burned a little track of their own in their box cars.

Drivers pushed their cars and themselves to the limits, sometimes with adverse results, to get the best position.
