The seesaw battle at the top of the South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League Midget AA standings continued over the weekend with the Midget AA Estevan Apex Bruins taking a one point lead over the Regina Rangers.

On Friday in Lumsden, Dalton Schrader and Josh Romanyk gave the Bruins an early 2-0 lead before the Lions would cut into the lead. Dawson Schaff would get his first of two on the night to round out the scoring in the first period, giving Estevan a 3-1 lead.

Jaiden Gervais and Tristan Seeman would add to the lead in the second period, with Dawson Schaff rounding out the scoring in the third period to give the Bruins a commanding 6-1 road win.

The Regina Vics stormed out of the gate to a 2-0 lead in the first period on Saturday night before the Bruins would rattle off three goals in the first nine minutes of the second from Dawson Schaff, Carson Benning and Terran Holzer.

Scoring in bunches continued to be a trend in the second when the Vics found the back of the net three more times, to cruise to a 5-3 lead.

The Vics would add four more in the third while the closest the Bruins would come was on a Dawson Schaff goal to make it 8-5. The Vics would add one more and take the game, 9-5.

On Sunday at home, the Bruins and Notre Dame Hounds would go head to head in front of the home fans at Affinity Place.

Tristian Seeman would find the twine on the power-play to get the Bruins off to a 1-0 lead before the Hounds would knot things up at 1-1 with a power-play goal of their own. Joey Meredith would open up the game for the Bruins near the end of the first when he scored a pair of power-play goals to give Estevan a 3-1 lead after the first.

Estevan and Notre Dame would exchange goals in the middle frame with Triston Sorenson doubling the Bruins lead to 4-2.

Dawson Schaff would score his 29th of the year in the third to give the Bruins the 5-2 lead and the win.

Now at 20-8-2, the Bruins have a one point lead on the Regina Rangers for first place in the standings. Estevan will travel to Swift Current next weekend to take on the Broncos in an early 11:15 a.m. start.
