The Estevan Midget AA Apex Bruins kicked off their best of five South Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League finals with a victory Saturday night in Affinity Place.

The Bruins proved to be too much for the Yorkton Terriers, as they edged their opponents by a score of 4-2.

It was a well fought game on both sides, as it remained 1-1 for a considerable amount of time. The third period, however, saw the Bruins punch it into high gear and take it home for the win.

Coach Blake Jamieson revealed that a sense of strong optimism is prominent among the players.

"It's been a good dressing room all year. The boys have gelled well together, and they are excited here in the finals."

He noted that goaltender Bryson Garton was a key part of the night.

"With him being in the net and making some big saves, it definitely gives the boys a lift."

Jamieson added that they are pleased to come out on top in the first game of the series.

The Apex Bruins will hit the ice again on Tuesday, March 21st, this time in Yorkton, to continue the championship series.
