With the Saskatchewan Winter Games looming in the next few days, a few Estevan residents are going to be representing the south east in a sport that most wouldn't expect.

While popular in many basements around the province as a pastime, students in Estevan are gearing up for their shot at provincial table tennis glory.

"We actually have a big table tennis club at ECS and I've been involved with it for the last four years," says Lindsay Collins, the coach for the south east women's table tennis team. "We have about 20 kids in the club and about 10 of them are competitive, three of them have been to nationals."

Those three would be Bernadette Pangan, Jean Rose Be, and Ruth Pecson, and Seth Peters will be joining them on the men's side. The team has been in training for most of the year and have been working with their provincial coach for a couple weeks now.

"We've had the provincial coach come down and work with the kids, running certain drills and we have buckets of balls where they practice their serve or practice a certain shot as well as playing some games on the tables."

The Sask. Winter Games are under way on February 18th, with table tennis games starting at 9am on February 22nd.
