Although her dream to attend university started with wanting to play hockey at the collegiate level, it's going to begin playing lacrosse instead.

Goaltender Teanna Sieben recently struck a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at the NCAA Division-II level for the Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears in Hickory, North Carolina.

"I went down to visit the campus and fell in love with it," the 18-year-old from Bienfait said. "How small the class sizes are, it was definitely what I was looking for. I'll be taking exercise science, I want to be involved with sports and travel with a team, I want to stay involved with sports and carry that on."

"School starts at the end of August, I'm so excited to start a new chapter of life, I just want to be part of the school, I'm just super excited to start."

Just five years ago, Sieben began her lacrosse career after finding out about the sport at school. Soon after, the local boys team in Estevan needed a goalie, and the rest is history.

"I started playing lacrosse when I was 13 when two boys came to school and introduced me to lacrosse, so I thought I would give it a try. When I started in Estevan, the team didn't have a goalie so I thought I would give it a try and I fell in love with it and got good at it."

"I played hockey since I was a kid and going to play hockey in college was my dream but now lacrosse is my calling, it's what I want to do," Sieben explained with enthusiasm.

In her short time involved with lacrosse, she has seen her fair share of success. Whether it's training in Calgary with ELEV8 Lacrosse, or being invited to suit up and practice with the Saskatchewan Rush in the National Lacrosse League, the local product has emerged as a star goaltender in the lacrosse world.

With August quickly approaching and a big move ahead, just one question remains for Sieben and her family.

"Were talking about it, we're thinking of bringing my car down we're not sure yet,  it's a 36 hour drive."

The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears play in the South Atlantic Conference against other schools in North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
