HIGHLIGHTS:

The Big Six Championship got started Wednesday night in Redvers as the two top teams all season long met for Game 1 of the Best-of-7 series.

It would be the hometown Rockets, hosting Game 1 due to ice-scheduling issues in Carnduff, shutting down the Red Devils offence in a 4-0 win to open the series.

Carnduff played Game 1 less than 24 hours after eliminating the Wawota Flyers in Game 5 of the semi-finals on Tuesday night, while Redvers was playing their first game in a week since eliminating the Bienfait Coalers.

In the first period, Carnduff's fresh legs and a sluggish start for Redvers made for a back-and-forth period. However, the game remained scoreless after 20 minutes.

Redvers would get back into the rhythm in the 2nd period and would open the scoring less than four minutes into the middle frame. On a tremendous individual effort, Dakota Rose came out of a battle in the corner for the puck and sniped top shelf past Adrian Rubeniuk to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead.

Redvers added to their lead minutes later, with Drew Hoff laying a perfect saucer pass onto the tape of a pinching Craig Gaudet who fired the puck five-hole for a 2-0 lead.

Brady Gaudet wristed a shot past Rubeniuk with 6:41 to go in the 2nd period to make it 3-0 for Redvers. Rubeniuk was pulled after the goal in favour of Cody Dumaine for Carnduff. The Rockets took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

Dakota Rose Scored Twice For Redvers In The Win.

Carnduff's offence was never able to get going in Game 1, as any chances they generated were handled by Thomas Bauche and cleared by the Redvers defence. Rose added his second goal of the game halfway through the 3rd period on a sweet feed from Jordon Miller to make it 4-0. That would be the final score with Bauche and the Rockets shutting out Carnduff in Game 1.

The Red Devils return home for both Games 2 and 3, this Friday the 16th and next Tuesday the 20th, to try and get back into the series. Both games begin at 8:00 from the Fast Centennial Arena.

Friday's game will not be broadcast on CJ1150. Stay tuned to DiscoverEstevan.com for the broadcast schedule as it's released.
