An important game for both teams, the Redvers Rockets met the Wawota Flyers at home Wednesday night with places in the standings going to change no matter what. For the Rockets, a win would put them up into a tie for second place with the tiebreaker in hand over the Carlyle Cougars, wheras the Wawota Flyers came into the game sitting in seventh place in the league, a win would bump them up over the Bienfait Coalers with still seven more games to play.

Both teams have had exceptional goaltending, Thomas Bauche for the Rockets with a 3.84 GAA coming in, Guilliuame Blouin for the Flyers with 3.87. Their offences have been great as well, Derek Frater held the league's scoring title for a time before the holiday break, and Kenton Miller was the current holder of the title with 38 points in 14 games.

The first minute of the game would give a power play opportunity to the Rockets when Linden Poirier would be called for the hook, but the Rockets wouldn't put anything passed Blouin. After the penalty ended, Kenton Miller would take an interference call behind the play and send Wawota to the man advantage. They would use the extra man to give Riley Riddell some room in the slot and he'd use it, sending a snap shot passed Thomas Bauche for the game's first goal, five minutes in.

Immediately after the goal was scored, a skirmish at the front of the net would send Wawota to the power play right after Riddell's goal let a man out of the box. Riddell would again get involved on the power play, sending a pass out from behind the net to Taylor Ernst who'd blast the one timer into the net for two power play goals less than three minutes apart.

Just before the halfway point of the period, the Flyers would get a third power play opportunity and again score, going 3/3 when Dylan Lamontagne would get the puck at the centre of the blue line off a nice feed from Linden Poirier, and Lamontagne's shot would sneak through a huge screen in front to find the back of the net.

Rockets' head coach Ken Potapinski then called a timeout to get his team to calm down and relax, and it would prove to be a smart move as the Rockets wouldn't give up another penalty or goal for the rest of the period, but they wouldn't put one in either.

After 1: 3-0 Wawota

Fifty eight seconds into the period, the Flyers would be sent back to the power play, but their perfect power play would be thwarted. In fact, the Rockets near the end of the penalty kill would get on the board when Todd Gervais would forecheck and take the puck behind the net, wrap around on the back hand and instead of shooting on the net, he'd put it off a defender's skate and in, whether he meant to or not, 1:44 into the frame.

After that, the Flyers would again take a penalty, and Bauche would hurry to the bench. The insulin 6 on 5 would lead to a rebound bouncing off the pad of Blouin, and Kenton Miller would rush in to tap in the easy goal and bring his team back behind one.

Right at the end of the period, the Rockets would get another 6 on 5 chance as Jesse Mathewson would take a hooking penalty, but the Rockets would cycle the puck for the rest of the period, meaning the man advantage would carry over into the third.

After 2: 3-2 Wawota

The third would start off with a bang for the Rockets once again, 25 seconds in when Drew Hoff would put in the fourth power play goal of the game.

Then, a minute later, again on the power play, the Rockets would take the lead thanks to a goal on the man advantage with Koltyn Miller who would hold the puck in when the Flyers tried to dump it out, and fire his shot through the screen into the net.

The one goal lead would last for a while throughout the final frame before we would finally see the first even strength goal of the game. Kenton Miller would break down the left side of the ice and rip a shot over the blocker of Blouin, putting the Rockets up by two with less than five minutes to go.

Now down a couple, the Flyers would get their chance to come back when they would spend the majority of the last four minutes on a five on three power play, and six on three once their goaltender got to the bench, but their efforts would be kicked aside and the Rockets would hold on.

FINAL SCORE: Redvers 5 - 3 Wawota

Three points for Kenton Miller gives him 41 points on the season and an eight point lead on the league's scoring race. The Rockets also take second place in the league with the victory.

The Flyers sit at 6-5 after having more games rescheduled than any team in the league, but also with more games left to play as well. Derek Frater's two assists put him up to 25 points, putting him in a tie for fourth in league scoring.
