The fans are going to get more than their money's worth in the Big Six Best-of-5 semi-final series between the Bienfait Coalers and Redvers Rockets.

Redvers finished three points ahead of the Coalers in the regular season standings, earning them home ice advantage in the series. And they would make it count in the opener.

It would only take 1:09 into the game for each time to get their first goal of the series. First, Bienfait's Hunter Piche fired a shot past Rockets' goaltender Shane Marsh to get the visitors on the board. But the Rockets' Brady Gaudet would respond on the next shift, beating Bienfait netminder Jackson Walliser to tie it up at 1-1.

Special teams would be a massive part of Game 1 as every goal scored in the rest of the game would come with one team shorthanded.

The Coalers' would regain the lead halfway through the period with Brennan Wrigley scoring on the powerplay to make it 2-1 Bienfait. Then with five minutes remaining in the opening frame, Kelsey Kenler fired a powerplay goal into the net to tie it up at 2-2 after the 1st period.

Five minutes into the middle frame, Bienfait's Preston Erickson would be assessed a 5-minute major for charging and a game misconduct. Redvers would take their first lead of the game 8:00 into the second period with Craig Gaudet scoring on the powerplay to make it 3-2. Four minutes later, Bienfait would tie it up once again with Dylan Herzberg scoring to make it 3-3 after two periods.

With the Rockets' Kevin Mann in the penalty box to start the 3rd period, Redvers would regain the lead while shorthanded as Brady Fidierchuk scored his first of the playoffs to make it 4-3 Redvers.

Just minutes later, Bienfait would take two consecutive minor penalties to put Redvers on a 5-on-3 powerplay. The Rockets would capitalize on both opportunties, with both Brady and Craig Gaudet scoring their second goals of the game to put Redvers up 6-3 with 16 minutes remaining in regulation.

Tyler Spencer got the Coalers within two goals by scoring on the powerplay with just 1:54 remaining in the 3rd period, but that's as close as Bienfait would get as Redvers won the series opener 6-4.

Bienfait played Game One missing some key players, as captain Kyle Garagan served the first of a two-game suspension and Tyson Price served his one-game suspension. Coalers' forward Payden Benning also missed Game 1 after taking a hard hit at the end of Bienfait's quarterfinal series against the Midale Mustangs.

Game 2 of the series will be played in Bienfait next Friday, March 2nd at 8pm
