The waters of Boundary Dam were busier than ever over the weekend as the Boundary Bass Class was held there once again. This year, the event was graduated from a club activity to a large scale, regional competition, put on by IOM Presents in conjunction Tourism Estevan and others.

"We had people that came from Ontario, Manitoba, and Alberta, to Estevan to fish for these bass. We ended up with 26 teams, two people per team, whereas the events that had happened previously in other years, the most was 15-18 teams," shared James Turner with IOM.

"The BBC is currently set up as a one day, catch and release fishing tournament. Two people per team, and they're allowed to weigh four fish. We have pretty serious rules about stressed or dead fish. We weigh them, weigh the big fish separately, and then get them back in the water as fast as possible to keep them healthy. Prizes are based on the biggest fish and the biggest basket."

The Manitoba duo of Matthew Terleski and Derek Robins took the trophy, their large mouth bass weighing in at 14.64. In a very close second place spot was Estevan's Lance Marcotte and Karen Soke, with the weight of 14.28. Less than half a pound separated the two teams.

"When you look at the big fish, they're also a tenth of a pound separated. Matt and Derek's fish could have just eaten one more leech or crayfish," Turner noted.

While the dates may be moved around for next year's event, he added that it will be certainly held again, with Estevan's Boundary Dam now on the map as prime fishing waters.
