The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins have added 17-year-old defenseman Austin King-Cunningham to their roster.

After swinging a big trade last week, Bruins Head Coach and General Manager Chris Lewgood pulled the trigger and added the 6-foot-1, 183-pound defender to the mix.

"He's a big rugged shut down guy," explained Lewgood. "He's got a nasty streak I think the fans will like, there's no question he will bring an element of toughness to the line up. Anyone coming down that right side is going to notice Austin, they're going to want to dump it to the other side because he's hard to play against."

King-Cunningham started this season with the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League and was released after playing four games with the club. He spent last season with the Battlefords Stars in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League where he posted 3 goals and 11 assists in 33 games, while leading the league in penalty minutes with 161.

Austin's older brother Tyler also suited up in 18 games for the Bruins during the 2015-16 season.

"Some fans will remember his brother Tyler King in here a couple years ago. Very different player, Austin's a lot bigger and a little more mobile than Tyler was. Not as good offensively, but more of a rugged shut down guy who is hard to play against."

After one week in between games, the Bruins will look to snap a three game losing skid starting on Wednesday night against the Hounds. Fans of the black and gold will get their first look at the newly acquired defenseman when the puck drop between the Hounds and Bruins at 7:00 inside Affinity Place.
