It didn't take long for the first hero of the postseason to emerge for the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins.

Zach Goberis scored :42 seconds into the first overtime period to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 victory over the Yorkton Terriers in Game 1 of their Best-of-7 SJHL quarterfinal series.

The two teams came out of the gates attempting to gain both a physical and mental edge early in the series. Both teams finished hits hard and took extra shots at one another after the whistle.

Yorkton's Quinton Hobbs Was Tangled Up With The Bruins All Game Long.

HIGHLIGHTS:

The Bruins would earn the first powerplay of the game just over five minutes into the game, and execute to take the early lead.

Matt McNeil bullied his way into the slot and snapped a shot past the blocker of Terriers' goaltender Nathan Hargrave to put the Bruins up 1-0.

Just minutes later, the Terriers would get a golden opportunity to tie the game as Carson Welke was awarded a penalty shot after being hooked.

Welke came in slow, faked a shot and then his shot was stopped by Estevan's goaltender Nathan Alalouf to keep the game 1-0.

After the Bruins took control of the first period, Yorkton came out with a strong push to try and tie the game in the second period. But every time the Terriers' got a good opportunity, Alalouf was there to make the save.

It remained 1-0 entering the third period. Each team had great chances to get the next goal, but it would stay 1-0 until the final minute of the game.

Yorkton had yet to pull the goalie for the extra attacker, but would get a break to tie the game.

Jared Legien's Goal With 1:04 Remaining Stunned The Fans Inside Affinity Place.

The Bruins had the puck in their own corner. As Evan Scott attempted to backhand the puck behind his own net to his teammate, the puck bounced on him and Scott passed the puck off the net and into the slot. Jared Legien picked up the loose puck and put it into the open net to tie the game 1-1 with 1:04 remaining.

That meant the first overtime game in the SJHL playoffs, but it wouldn't last longer than a minute.

After a solid forecheck, Goberis picked up the puck and sniped a perfect shot through a screened Hargrave, erupting the crowd inside Affinity Place.

The Bruins now lead the Best-of-7 series (1-0). Game 2 is Saturday back in Yorkton at 7:30pm
