The Power Dodge Estevan Bruins selected 15-year-old Turner McMillen 10th overall in the first round of the SJHL Bantam Draft on Friday morning.

The local product from Carievale scored 13 goals, adding 12 assists in 25 games with the Bantam AA Estevan TS&M Bruins. He also appeared at the Bruins spring camp at the end of April.

"We knew right from the start that we wanted to use our first pick on Turner McMillen," said Bruins head coach and GM Chris Lewgood. "He's from Carrievale but he played his minor hockey in Estevan and his older brother is in our organization and his dad is a former Bruin. He's shaping up to be a really good player."

Turner was also selected in the WHL bantam draft by the Kelowna Rockets. Lewgood said the Bruins would wait to see how that played out.

The Bruins had just four picks in the draft. They waited until 45th overall to make their next selection, Regina-born defenseman Blake Heward. Heward suited up for the Northern Alberta Bantam Prep team last year, posting 25 points in 26 games. He was also a WHL bantam pick by Swift Current. His father is the Broncos assistant coach.

The Bruins third selection went between the pipes as they nabbed netminder Drayden Ramage. The Pilot Bute native played for the Prairie Storm Bantam AA team in 2017-18.

The Bruins final pick was perhaps an off the board selection as they nabbed another Regina native, Cole Sillinger. Cole was a member of the Okanagan Bantam Prep team this year and torched his league with 46 goals in 30 games. He was the 11th overall pick by Medicine Hat in the WHL bantam draft this year, and is the son of former NHLer Mike, who played over 1000 games for a record twelve teams.

The Bruins traded one of their earlier picks to Melville to acquire defenseman Jake Tesarowski during the 2017-18 season.
