For the third time in the last four games, sixty minutes wasn’t enough for the Estevan Bruins, and for the third time in four games they earned a win outside regulation.

The Bruins arrived in Flin Flon on a chilly Thursday night on November 9 and left 4-3 winners in overtime over the hometown Bombers. Arthur Miller scored the overtime winner after burying one in regulation as well to lead Estevan to victory.

Game Highlights:

The Bruins got down early on a clever redirection by Bombers forward Nick Shumlanski off a slap-pass from the point, but they didn’t stay down for long. Zach Goberis took the puck into the Bombers zone on a three-on-two rush and fed it over to Johnny Witzke, who rifled it top corner to tie the game.

It was Goberis’s first assist of the game but it wasn’t his last, or even his last of the period. As the Bruins worked a cycle, Goberis threw the puck out front to Miller, who chopped it at the net from the low slot to give the Bruins their first lead of the game.

The Bombers looked like a new team in the second, taking advantage of some early power play time to tie the game and then take the lead in the middle frame. Their lead lasted most of the period before the Bruins grinded out another goal as Hayden Guilderson drove his way to the net and created a rebound for captain Jake Fletcher to slide home to even the game at three.

The third period saw no change in the score, but it wasn’t for lack of trying on Estevan’s part. The Bruins pounded 22 shots on the Flin Flon net, many from the slot or tops of the circles, but sound and at times stellar goaltending from Brendan Newton held the game even. The Bombers nearly made the Bruins pay for their lack of finish as Christopher Collin appeared to have the game on his stick with less than five seconds left, but Max Sidelnik robbed him on the doorstep.

Overtime was a back and forth affair that nearly went to a shootout, but with just 24 minutes to go in the extra frame Miller took a pass from Michael McChesney out front and roofed it to give the Bruins the extra point.

The Bruins now have a layoff for one day before getting back to action on Saturday in La Ronge against the Ice Wolves. You can catch all the action on Rock 106.

GAME NOTES:

Arthur Miller’s two goals gave him his first multi-goal game as a Bruin. Miller has one multi-point game in a Bruins uniform, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the shootout win over Notre Dame.

This was the second meeting of the year between the Bruins and Bombers, with the Bruins winning the first game between the two in Estevan.

The Bruins have played four overtime games this year and two shootout games, winning all but one game in extra time.
