The hometown team nearly came away with the gold, as Carnduff was host to the Peewee AA Tier 2 tournament over the weekend.

A 13-7 victory over the Macklin Lakers got things rolling for the Carnduff Astros on Friday, followed by a 6-3 loss to the Battleford Beavers. They rebounded to beat the Unity Cardinals 9-3, and the Assiniboia Aces 7-4 on Saturday, launching them into semi finals.

Sunday saw them give a 14-8 drubbing to the Yorkton Cardinals. However, facing Unity once again in the final, they fell just short of the championship with a score of 15-4.

"The competition was really good. All six of our games were pretty tight, as was most of the tournament. Our boys played outstanding, they put a lot of work in through the year, and it was really good to see them show up at the right time," stated Coach Blair Beck.

When it came to the event as a whole, he spoke to the pride the community takes in being able to show off their baseball facilities.

"We think we have some of the best diamonds in the province, some of the best volunteers. As always for events we put on, it's a lot of work, but we got a lot of nice compliments and the weekend went very well."
