It sure didn't take long for Estevan's Cole Fonstad to get on the board at the Under-18 World Championships in Russia.

Team Canada opened their pre-tournament schedule early on Sunday morning with a 5-0 win over Team Slovakia.

After Canada took a 1-0 lead, Fonstad added the primary assist on a goal from Cameron Hillis that made it 2-0. Canada increased their lead to 3-0 on a short-handed marker from Alexis Lafreniere, where just 27 seconds later, Fonstad added a short handed goal of his own to put Canada up 4-0 after the first period.

Canada would add another goal in the second before shutting out Slovakia, on the way to their 5-0 win.

Goaltender Nolan Maier, who spent time with the SJHL's Yorkton Terriers this season stopped everything that came his way during the third period.

Cole Fonstad and Team Canada will take on Team Finland on Monday morning at 8:30.
