The Estevan Elecs high school football team kicked off their regular season Saturday afternoon in Moose Jaw.

Taking on the Vanier Vikings, they were unable to come on top with a 48-8 loss. However, Head Coach Mark Schott noted that they learned a lot.

"Early in the 1st quarter it was 6-6, but some turnovers and big plays ended up hurting us. We had a young team going out there, many of our players playing their first high school football game, so it was definitely a learning experience."

"A lot of them acknowledged after the game that it was a little bit of a wake up call. They now understand some of the points that we've been trying to make during practice," he said.

"They're eager to get back out on the field, work towards correcting some of those mistake, put what they learned from the game to practice and develop some of those skills."

Schott added that, despite the loss, the team played very well, with several having strong showings.
