It was a busy weekend on the courts for the ECS Elecs Junior and Senior boys basketball teams.

The Juniors clawed their way to the top, where they did battle with Vanier for the gold in the championship. However, they weren't quite able to hold on, and settled for silver with an 85-56 decision.

"We played well. We actually got some big minutes off some guys from the bench, that was nice to see. They were pretty much the reason we won against Carlyle in the semi finals. It was a good effort, and to be in the final in your home tournament is always something you want to see," shared Assistant Coach Rob Galloway.

"I think nerves and just a couple melt downs that we had was the reason that they got ahead, and then we couldn't catch back up."

He noted that they had strong effort from every member on the bench, one of the highlights of the weekend. Heading into the near future, they'll be focusing on some of the little things and striving for consistency.

The Senior boys went 1-2 in their weekend, first triumphing over Weyburn 92-81 on Friday, before dropping 91-75 to Vanier and 96-87 to Swift Current.

"They (Weyburn) were missing two of their better players, senior guys, so it'll be a different team next time we play them. We can't take that win for granted, we just gotta go in with a different mindset next time, which will probably be close to the McLeod series," said Assistant Coach Dustin Wilson.

"After that, it was a couple tough losses. Some of the stuff we've been working on all year started to show up in those, some of our defense in the first game, man to man, then some of our shooting in the second game, which kind of kept us in it. Some positives to take from it, but it's still kind of frustrating to take to losses to finish it out."

He stated that their shooting has been below par for most of the season so far, so Saturday's showing proved that progress is being made.

"If we can keep doing that, along with using our big guys on the inside, I think we've got a good chance with the rest of the season on making a few upsets as well as having some success in the rest of the tournaments."

With the McLeod series approaching on the horizon, the boys have a couple of tournaments in between to hone their skills and prepare for the age old rivalry, with the aim of keeping the trophy on home court.
