Teeing off in their first tournament of the year, ECS golfers had to battle chilly and gusty conditions to get the ball on the green at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

10 different schools amounting to 51 players participated. Jayden Dudas, Chase Gedak, and Jace Carlisle cleaned up the boys division, placing first, second and third respectively with 78, 80, and 82. Bailey Farr was second among the girls with a score of 95. In addition, Drew Fenwick took home a novelty prize for a close approach.

Despite the weather, the numbers were pretty strong, though Coach Wes Kreklewich noted that it wasn't a priority this time around.

"It was just a fun tournament to get everybody out. How we performed and how we did wasn't foremost in our minds. The key thing was to just get the kids out and get them golfing again."

"The weather was tough. It was good that the kids persevered and tried hard, the wind was going 40 or 50 kilometers an hour. I was just really pleased at how the kids played," he said.

Kreklewich also expressed that the large number of youngsters interested in the sport was great to see.

"It's a good start. Hopefully they get the itch and they're out here every day or every second day and get better because of it."
