The Estevan Comprehensive School senior boys basketball team has had a great season heading into the 5A regional qualifying tournament in Yorkton this March 15th and 16th.

Trevor Dutka Coach of the Seniors Boys Basketball team, "Obviously this year we've been very competitive, every weekend and our goal at the start of the year was to be playing our best at the end of the year, and I think we're doing right now. And we are really looking forward to this weekend in playing in Yorkton.

In true team fashion Coach Dutka shares that they don't focus on one individual, "We play a pretty basic team game, everyone needs to be there every night, we never really look for one guy to stand out. We work as a team and that's what we're going to do this weekend also."

ECS will be one of nine teams at regional's. North Battleford Comprehensive, Warman, Yorkton Regional, Prince Albert Carlton, Prince Albert St. Mary’s, Lloydminister Comprehensive, Balgonie Greenall and Swift Current will also be entered. "The top two teams at regional's go on to Hoopla the weekend after, right now going into regionals we were ranked 2nd." He goes on to share the quality of competition, "But in saying that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th teams were very competitive all year, and that's ourselves, Yorkton, and Prince Albert Carlton. And on any given day, anyone can't beat anyone on the basketball court so we really have to be prepared for anyone this weekend."

They have 5 players all graduating this year, and Dutka shares where that puts them for the next season, "Next year we haven't really thought about, but we do have some grade 10 students that start with us that will be able to carry the torch for us next year."
