Heading into the ninth year of Elecs football at ECS, sixth year Head Coach Mark Schott is gearing up for another season at the helm of the program.

"There's a lot of excitement at this time of the year with our players and coaches, but there's also a lot of uncertainty heading into this year. We graduated a lot of players from our team so there will be an opportunity for new players to come in and make an impact for us," Schott said.

"We had a lot of our starters returning last season, so we didn't have to spend a lot of time on system work because our players already had that down. We will have a lot more new and inexperienced players coming in and our focus will be on skill development, but we still have to know our plays and systems."

An important part of getting the most out of your team is putting players in the right situations to achieve success, and that's something the Head Coach has identified.

"As a coaching staff we have to recognize the talent that we have and where the best spot for our players is. I feel it's very important and that's going to be the very first part of our camp. This year will be a building year, and I don't say that to derail expectations in any sort of way. We want to go out there and be as competitive as we can every game and rattle off some wins."

"The goal for this year is to get our young core playing together and achieving success for something to build on in the next couple of years. There's a lot of good young talent coming up through Estevan Minor Football and that's going to be the foundation of the high school team in years to come," Schott concluded.

The Elecs will have their equipment handout on August 24th, with the first official practice taking place the following day on the 25th. On September 1st, the Elecs will welcome the Weyburn Eagles to Estevan for an exhibition game.

Those interested in joining the team are asked to contact Head Coach Mark Schott at mark.schott@cornerstonesd.ca. Boy's and girls in grade 9-12 from Estevan, Lampman, Carlyle, Oxbow and Carnduff are eligible to play football at ECS with no experience required.
