The ECS Elecs Senior Girls have punched their ticket to SHSAA HOOPLA provincials after a dominating 4A Regionals victory on home court.

Having lucked out with a first round bye, they took on the Melville Cobras on Saturday in a do or die effort. The girls immediately took command and ended the first period with a 27-13 lead. After extending that to 60-24 at the half, they faced a determined opponent attempting to comeback for the next two periods, but held on for the 88-42 win.

"We are super excited to go back to HOOPLA for our second year in a row. We just feel that these girls have put in the time, have worked hard, and have really focused on their main goal this year from the beginning, which has always been HOOPLA," expressed Coach Jessie Smoliak.

"McLeod series was our first goal, but this is our real accomplishment of the season, because HOOPLA is the best of the best."

She was also pleased at being able to rotate her full squad of girls in, some of whom, for various reasons, had been out of commission in the past few weeks.

"We were really happy to watch our youngest players play today. We put Haylee Jones out as wing, which she has never played before, and she executed the position very well. It was really good to see our younger players step up and play in a game that's so meaningful, and do really well," Smoliak added.

"We are hoping for the girls to play their best basketball this upcoming weekend. We still need to work on a couple rotations. The girls just need to have a passion for when they play, and who they play. It all comes with intensity."

"They have the fundamentals and skill to do it, it just needs to come from within now," chimed in Assistant Coach Ashleigh Dzuba, adding that they hope that the girls will peak at that point.

The squad finished in the top 4 of their category, and will head into the provincials in Prince Albert as the third ranked team. They will face Moose Jaw as their first opponent.

Meanwhile, the Elecs Senior boys took part in the 5A Regionals in Warman. They got things off on the right foot on Friday with a 76-67 win over PA Carlton, but the momentum didn't last and they fell 93-71 to North Battleford Comprehensive, ending their season run.
