The second leg of the 84th Annual McLeod Series between the ECS Elecs and the WCS Eagles senior basketball teams could not have asked for a better finale. After the first two games in Weyburn, the Elecs had a slim three point lead coming into games three and four.

To set the scene, here's the recap from last week: ECS Elecs ahead after first McLeod Series Date

Starting off with the girl's game, the ECS Elecs were the more inexperienced team without a single senior player on their roster compared to the five on Weyburn's.

The Elecs would come out firing on all cylinders, firing everything up in the air that they could and pulled ahead to a seven point lead early in the second quarter. From there, the Eagles would start to fire back, particularly thanks to the quick three point shots coming from Hailey Neiszner whenever the Eagles would throw in the in bound. At the halfway point, the Eagles had a slim 29-28 game, a much bigger defensive battle compared to the last.

From there, the Elecs would make an initial push in the first half of the third quarter, pulling ahead by a few points thanks to a three point shooter of their own in Bethany Montebon, but the constant pressure coming the other way and a little bit of foul trouble would ultimately cost the Elecs. The Eagles would take the lead by five with two seconds left on the clock before Nieszner would send up a buzzer beater three that landed, giving the Eagles an 8 point lead in the game, and a five point lead in the series.

As for the boys, they had a very defensive game in their first outing against the Eagles. This time, that would not happen.

Minutes into the game, the boys had a nine point lead over the Eagles thanks to some early threes from John Andres. At the end of the first, the Elecs were riding a 25-16 lead, and they'd continue to hold that lead through the second although the Eagles would come back with some buckets of their own, cutting the lead to 47-42 by the half, tying the series exactly.

The third quarter would see a few changes in the lead back and forth before the Eagles would take a single point lead into the final quarter. Connor Guenther for the Eagles had been scoring regularly throughout the game, but in the fourth he would put up six for his team while Blake Anderson would add eleven, and within the final minute of the game, the Eagles would start to pull away. The Elecs would get chance after chance, but a few more quick three point shots from John Andres would fall short, and the Eagles would win the game by a single basket 87-85.

Final score for the entire series: 288-281 in favour of Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles. The McLeod Series goes to Weyburn for the second year in a row.

"John does have a minor injury right now and we weren't going to play him that much, but John's a leader on this team and he obviously scores a lot of point for us so we need him out there," says coach for the Elecs boys team John Andres.

Despite the two point loss, the first that the ECS boys have given up to Weyburn this year, John Andres had 31 points on the night.

"I think we came out strong, I think we played our game and executed our game plan properly for maybe half the game, but unfortunately the other half of the game we just didn't execute what we practiced all week and what we wanted to do."
