Practice paid off for the Estevan Junior Coaler Rollers as they headed up to Brandon for some of their first games of the year.

The level 3 senior skaters went up against Brandon's Wheat City Frostbite, and took the victory in the first of the season 312-140.

"The kids played amazing. It was the fastest game I've ever seen them play. They really came together as a team, great communication, low penalties, and we were able to walk away with the win," shared Coach Loralei LaChamb.

It was a tight one for the newer competitors level ones and twos against Brandon. They and the Frostbite fought a bitter battle to the end, when the latter barely pulled ahead to win 269-252.

"It was a very close game, and it was half of our skaters' first game that they had ever played, so we were super proud of them. It was a great weekend of derby.

The Coaler's next action will be their home tournament in Bienfait on May 26-27.

The younger Coaler Rollers had a tight finish in Brandon.
