The Estevan Mermaids took part in the Sadie Caulder Knight synchronized swim competition in Regina over the weekend, and put forth a strong showing.

Taking part in figures, solo’s, duets and team routines, a number of girls had top 10 finishes.

In the 16-18 Provincial Stream (PS) category, Southeast Connections coached by Brenda Lyons and Kim Neithercut, took home 1st place for both routine with their marks of 58.26 and their averaged figure marks of 56.16 for a Championship mark of 114.43.

They dominated the top 10 in Figures with Nyla Dyck placing 2nd with 58.58, Hannah Mantei 4th at 56.56, Gemma Bittman 5th with 56.26, Alexis Vandermey 8th with 56.08 and Marlie Weinrauch 9th with 55.56.

The team also produced strong results with Marlie Weinrauch and Nyla Dyck placing 4th in a duet with their Routine mark of 55.36, but 3rd with their combined routine/figure marks for a championship mark of 112.43.

In solos, Hannah Mantei took 3rd in her routine with a mark of 55.8, and Alexis Vandermey finished 4th with 55.46.

Megan & Marley competed in the Duet 13 - 15 year old category placing 4th of 7 teams with a Routine mark of 55.10.

Haley Copeland did a solo in the 13 - 15 category placing 5th out of 12 with her routine mark of 54.46 and closing into 3rd place in Championship marks of 113.86 due to strong Figure marks of 59.39.

Both teams in the 10 and under Limited Competitive category had a good showing. The Fire Flies, coached by Shannon Wanner, placed 3rd for their team routine with a mark of 43.66, but 2nd in Championship marks thanks to their strong Figure marks. Team Sparkle Stars, coached by Susan Swirski, finished 1st with their routine marks of 44.0. Of 26 competitors, 5 broke the top 10 for figure marks. 3rd was Elle Meyers with 49.50, 5th Charlotte Waldegger with 47.16, 6th Rowyn Shier 47.08, and tied for 7th were Sierra Mantei and Sarah Green with 46.91.

Brenna Lawrence and Amber Mantei had strong routines but no competition.

This coming weekend, the Estevan Mermaids will be hosting their Annual Water Show at the Leisure Centre.  After that, the Mermaids will look forward to a final competition in Saskatoon May 3 & 4.
