Former ECS Elecs basketball star Carter Kuchinka has announced his commitment to the University of Calgary Dinos for next season.

The 6-foot-9 forward who now plays for the Notre Dame Hounds in the National Preparatory Association, revealed his scholarship commitment via social media over the weekend. Kuchinka made the Elecs senior basketball team when he was in grade nine, and continued play for the Elecs through his grade eleven season.

"One of the rare things that does happen, is a grade nine making the senior team," explained Carter's former coach at ECS, Dustin Wilson. "You don't see it very often, but it goes to show what kind of player he is. Probably the most unique thing about Carter's game besides his height and fundamentals was his shooting. He was by far our best shooter, we could rely on him in any situation."

Wilson also spoke about the impact Carter will have on young players who want to play basketball in Estevan, knowing that there is a chance to pursue basketball and further your education at the CIS level.

"He was on the team the broke the streak in the McLeod Series and was a huge part of winning those games. It has really opened up not only opportunities for himself, but opportunities for the kids following behind him. He came down to Estevan for the alumni game to get the team in game situations. He's already giving back and trying to work with the program from Estevan here and it's great to see."

"He's a great kid with a good head on his shoulders, the sky's the limit for him," Wilson concluded.
