In less than one week, the inaugural SJHL/MJHL Showcase will take to the ice at the Cooperators Centre in Regina.

Earlier this week the Manitoba Junior Hockey League released their roster, which included Estevan's Kyle Salaway.

"Obviously it's really exciting, being from Saskatchewan I'll get to play against some old buddies and it's just an honor to be on that list," explained Salaway, who plays for the Virden Oil Capitals.

The now 20-year-old forward spent the 2011-12 season with the Bantam AA Bruins, before moving up to play two seasons with the Midget AA Bruins, where he scored 36 goals and 64 assists in 70 games. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound defender for the Virden Oil Capitals is enjoying a career season, having scored 19 goals and 23 assists in in 39 games.

"I've had a lot more confidence and it's leading to more ice time and a lot more opportunity. It's been good, we're sitting in third place so I can't complain. A lot of work left to do but we're pretty happy right now."

Having played and grown up in Estevan, Salaway also spoke about his excitement for the potential to suit up with or against some former friends and teammates.

"I have some friends on the team(Bruins) so I always keep tabs on what they're doing. There's a real good chance for a few guys, I'm exciting to see who will be on there and I know there will be some familiar faces for sure."

Salaway won't have to wait much longer, as the SJHL is set to release their roster for the inaugural showcase on Thursday morning at 10.

Two former Bruins, Nolan Ferguson and Ty Barnstable were also chosen to represent the MJHL.
