The Annual Saskatchewan Water Polo banquet was held last weekend and the Estevan Sharks walked home with two awards.

Charlotte Andrist won Female Athlete of the Year in the Under 14 Division.

"I was pretty surprised. There were other girls, so I was pretty surprised."

This will be her last year in the Under 14 division but she plans to continue on.

"I've been doing it my whole life. All the people are really nice."

And it was even more special for her since her mother is one of the coaches and an award winner herself as this year, the Coach of the Year went to Estevan's Tania Andrist and Mona Hack.

"We coached together all year long," explained Andrist. "Provincial recognition is really amazing. Estevan is a smaller centre and to be recognized for the whole province is pretty amazing. They have quite a few highly trained coaches and we're community coaches we of course, bring our best, but it was a surprise."

Hack added that water polo is truly a family affair for them as both have children in the program.

"We just got started when our kids started playing and we learned the sport as we went along."

"It's an awesome sport, very physically demanding for the kids, great team sport. We've been coaching these kids for 3-4 years already and they know how we coach and what we want to see."

Andrist added that this year was a confidence builder for them. There were many times that they had to split up and coach two different teams but they felt that they belonged there and could handle the pressure.

"There's a confidence in both of us that we know what we're doing. We had really positive results this year."
