Young athletes from around the southeast gathered at the Chamney Running Track at Panteluk Field to compete in the Southeast District Athletic Association Track and Field Regional competition.

Among those who showed strong were the hosts, the ECS Elecs team, of which all competitors qualified to move on to the district meet in Weyburn.

"This was the first time that we have hosted it in Estevan. I'm really proud of what the whole crew at ECS has done to get as far  as it has," said Head Coach Caitlyn Giesbrecht.

"We started in early April with about 55 kids, who have been out training for last couple of months. We have 43 athletes that have  made   it through the whole season and qualified to compete at this meet."

She noted that the activity is unique for growing the students.

"I think track and field is a different from many of the other sports. There's this  real sense of team and a positive group atmosphere. In addition, the events are on their own, so it really helps kids learn accountability, timeliness and being self driven and motivated."

"Although there is people cheering them on, it's themselves against their own best times or their own best throws or their own best distances," she added.
