The Estevan Taekwondo Club hosted their home tournament on Saturday.

"The tournament went well," shared Wayne Brown, Head Instruction for the Estevan Taekwondo Club.

And although their numbers were down from last year, there was still plenty of competition to go around.

"We did have eight clubs attend, three from Saskatoon, one from Williston, one from Oxbow, one from Regina, and two from Estevan, the taekwondo and karate club."

"So that was nice to see a couple new clubs and instructors who haven't been here before."

He added that many of the instructors and competitors were impressed with the tournament Estevan put on.

"We make sure we look after all the participants so everyone goes home safe."

The tournament featured pattern demonstrations, sparring competitions, and board breaking.

Troy McClelland won the gold medal in board breaking.

Brown also noted the increase of younger students at the tournament.

"It goes in cycles. We have 33 new beginners this year and that was a high number for us too. I find that parents like their kids in taekwondo. There's lots to be learned, lots of discipline, lots of character building so I think parents really enjoy that."

He also went on to thank the volunteers involved in the tournament.
