Several local hockey players were looking to make a splash and catch the eye of NHL coaching staff, while joining dozens of other rookies on the ice for several exhibition games.

Tanner Jeannot and the Nashville Predators nearly had a perfect run through three games in the NHL Rookie Showcase, winning against Washington and Tampa Bay. However, the final match up saw them against Washington's prospects once again, and despite a late comeback attempt they lost 8-5.

Main camp is next for the Preds, and it gets underway on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Cole Fonstad will return to play for the Prince Albert Raiders for another year. He was cut following the Montreal Canadians' NHL Rookie Showdown run, which consisted of losses to Ottawa and Toronto.

Cale Fleury will look to make an impression and get a spot on Montreal's roster during the Canadians' main camp, which gets underway soon as well.

Brayden Pachal has kept himself on the radar of the powers-that-be in the Calgary Flames, having received an invite to their development camp, then their rookie camp. Over the past few days he has particpated in their Rookie Tournament, beating the Edmonton Oilers prospects 7-3. One more game is set to go against Edmonton on Wednesday.
