Five seasons after suiting up for the AA Bantam Bruins in Estevan, the dream of being drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) has become reality for Cale Fleury.

Fleury was selected in the 3rd round (87th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens during the 2017 NHL Entry Draft held in Chicago on Friday and Saturday.

Cale joins his brother Hadyn in the NHL, who was selected in the 1st round (7th overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 Entry Draft.

The younger Fleury played the 2011/12 season with the AA Bantam Bruins as a first year defenceman. Cale racked up 10 points (2G, 8A) and 22 penalty minutes in 23 regular season games for Estevan that season.

Some of Fleury's teammates included Kaelan Holt and Tyler Hengen, current members of the Estevan Bruins in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Goaltender Carter Phair (SJHL, Weyburn Red Wings) and forward Tanner Jeannot (WHL, Moose Jaw Warriors) were also on the 11/12 Bruins' squad.

The following season in 2012/13, Fleury joined the Notre Dame Bantam AAA Hounds before graduating to the Notre Dame Midget AAA Hounds in 2013/14.

Fleury has spent the last three seasons with the Western Hockey League's (WHL) Kootenay Ice, serving as team captain this past season with 38 points (11G, 27A) and 67 penalty minutes in 70 games.
