Affinity Place will play host to 16 of the top Men's curling teams in Saskatchewan next week as the 2018 SaskTel Tankard provincial playdowns run from January 31st - February 4th.

One team is going to have the whole community cheering on every shot during the week, that would be the Brent Gedak rink playing out of the Estevan Curling Club.

"The crowd is going to be exciting," states Gedak, who's team earned a direct berth this season during the first Saskatchewan Curling Tour (SCT) event of the year in November.

"We play against teams every year who are the home team that cheer on every shot, especially the really good ones. But we're looking forward to the fans being on our side and seeing what the Tankard is all about."

The Gedak rink has played together for the past few years consisting of: Skip - Brent Gedak, Third - Clint Dieno, Second - Derek Owens, and Lead - Shawn Meyer.

All along the way has also been the team's coach, Bob Doerr from Bienfait who has played and coached Gedak personally for over a decade.

"They've got a really good dynamic on this team," expressed Doerr, who has been a part of two winning Tankard teams skipped by Jim Packet from Estevan in 1997 and 1989.

"It's a perfect mix of talent and experience. The fact that you've got four guys that have been together for a few years now, that's real important."

Gedak will be making his 14th appearance in the Tankard and with the fans of Estevan cheering him on, he's hopeful to represent Saskatchewan and book his first appearance to the Tim Hortons Brier with a tournament victory on home ice.
