One young, sharpshooting member of the Estevan Archery Club recently received national recognition for his efforts in the sport.

Estevan's Hunter Chipley just returned from the 2018 Canadian Archery Championships in Truro, Nova Scotia with both a gold and silver medal.

He competed in Field against six others in the Cadet Recurve division, shooting 72 arrows over distances ranging from 5 to 50 meters to his target to earn silver. Then, in a Target double 720 round in the same division against 13 other athletes, he shot another 72 arrows accurately over 60 meters for the gold. He also competed in the Fred Usher Cup.

"I stayed focused the whole way through it, stayed focused and just played my own game," he said, "I was happy. I was surprised (to win) because my first overall day wasn't too good, but on the second day I pulled it through. I was pretty rewarded, it felt really good."

Chipley noted that he was in fifth place at the end of the first day, and simply recharged and knew what to fix to rebound.

He plans to tryout for Team Saskatchewan and make it to the Canada Games, then return to the nationals next year.
