Sixteen young curlers from Estevan and surrounding area have been chosen as the 2018 SaskTel Tankard Junior Stars sponsored by First Line Plumbing. They will become honourary members of the 16 visiting teams and participate in the Opening Ceremonies with their new teams.

Pam Dechief, organizer of the program, has volunteered with many national curling events and was excited to bring this particular program to Estevan.

"They will spend time with the team behind the scenes and with they will spend with the teams during their warm ups on the ice.

She added that it is a great opportunity to learn from these professional curlers.

"And that's I told them, "don't be shy, ask as many questions as you want." Because that's where they they're going to get a lot of knowledge from, and excitement."

Dechief believes that the future of curling in Saskatchewan is in a good place.

"I was looking at the entries at and some of these kids have four or five years of curling experience already and they are 13 years old. So these kids are curling already and their knowledge of the game and the strategy is phenomenal for that age. They are going to be lifetime curlers."

In addition to accompanying the teams, the kids also receive a jacket, tickets for their families to attend, and some other exciting prizes.
