Affinity Place has been abuzz, as the 2017 Juvenile Broomball National Championships kicked off Tuesday in the Energy City.

On hand for the opening ceremonies was the President of Broomball Canada, George Brown, who shared his thoughts on the occasion.

"We always look forward to the Junior Nationals. We know what it takes to host an event like this, and we try to be as supportive as we possibly can."

"We're gracious of the fact that a lot of people did a lot of work to make this event happen," he added.

Also on hand for the beginning festivities was the Co-Chair of the event, Shelly Schroeder, who talked about what it means to have the Broomball Nationals in Estevan.

"It's been a lot of work, but it is so worth it when you see the boys and girls on the ice. That's why we did it for the athletes."

"It's been tedious and tiring, but totally worth it," she expressed.

The host Estevan Raiders lost their opening match up to team Manitoba 4-1 and followed that up with a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Valley Gamblers. Dwight Kress scored the lone goal for the team.

The Raiders are back in action Wednesday when they play at 9 am against the Kilsyth Flyers and then the QC1-Blitz at 3.
