Blaine Kovach is taking his wealth of baseball knowledge, and spreading it throughout the Estevan Minor Baseball system.

Heavily involved in the local baseball community, Kovach is the Head Coach of the Midget AAA South East Twins, while taking on the role of Performance Director for Estevan Minor Baseball, and instructing the Estevan Inside Pitch Baseball Academy.

To this day, Kovach continues to be a student of the game and was recently hand picked by Baseball Saskatchewan to take part in Baseball Canada's National Development Coaching program, where he and other coaches from around Canada traveled to West Palm Beach in Florida, to take part in a number of different training sessions.

"It was an absolutely amazing experience," Kovach said. "I was very fortunate to have Sask Baseball select me, having coaches from all across Canada and Baseball Canada instructors as well, we learnt a ton. I have one course left in the fall, a game and practice evaluation along with a portfolio, and then I'm a nationally certified coach, I can coach any where in Canada at the highest level."

One key component Kovach took away from his time in Florida, is the importance of preparation and what it can do for a program.

"Having a certain type of practice plan was a huge take-away for me. That's one thing I do as a coach, I'm very prepared well in advance, I have a schedule and I execute it. That's one big thing I want to bring to Estevan is for coaches to really have a plan and be prepared. The kids get what we put into it and if you wing a practice, they are going to do the same. You have to prepare and put in the effort."

As Kovach continues his coaching career in south east Saskatchewan, there is one goal of his that might be too hard for him to pass up should the opportunity present itself one day.

"My wife will kill me for saying this," Kovach said with a laugh. "If I could be a college coach some day that would be absolutely amazing, but I love developing these smaller communities and all the information that I can provide, I love doing that. Having young kids and coaches develop and continue loving the game, that's a big part of what I like to do and hopefully I can continue doing that," he concluded.
