Following the end of the Estevan Bruins outstanding run to the SJHL finals, the Stanley Cup Playoffs became a little more important for hockey fans in Estevan.

For Pete Seregella, it was a no brainer to get behind the Winnipeg Jets, who remain as Canada's only NHL team in the mix to win the Stanley Cup. It's not only been exciting just for Seregella, but for fans and customers who have also backed the Jets throughout the playoffs.

"The Pats (Regina) got knocked out, Bruins (Estevan) got knocked out and the city was just so passionate about our home team," explained Seregella, who owns Willy's Tap House, 1124 Social House and Tower Cafe. "Now that they're done, everyone is excited for the NHL playoffs and the Jets are Canada's team I think. Nobody goes home when it comes time to watch a Jets game, the crowds are sticking around. Everyone has embraced the Jets, we're behind what we call Canada's team now."

According to Seregella, the close proximity to Winnipeg that makes it even more interesting to watch, with a five hour drive getting you to the Manitoba capital.

"For us to have a team this close to Estevan, you can make that drive and go hang out with twenty to thirty-thousand of your best friends outside on the street to watch the game."

Should the Jets beat the Predators in round two, they would meet the expansion franchise Vegas Golden Knights who took down the San Jose Sharks in five games to move on to the Western Conference Final.

"It's super exciting to see Vegas, Jim McKenzie who will be here for the Bruins Sportsman Dinner is a scout for the Vegas Knights, I'm sure he'll be talking about it a lot. That will be super," Seregella said of the chance Winnipeg meets Vegas. "Obviously I'm going to cheer for the Jets, I wish Vegas luck but I'll be wearing my red, white and blue for sure," he concluded.
