Squaring off with an opponent you've never faced before can turn into a serious learning experience. This was the case for several young members of the Estevan Voltz Lacrosse, and they turned that experience into success.

Players from the Novice, Peewee and Bantam Voltz joined the Novice, Peewee and Bantam Moose Jaw Mustangs and Regina Barracudas for the Canada Day Tournament in Calgary, Alberta. The Peewee Mustangs, who included Estevan's Logan Lang, Corbie Lemcke and Ty Farnsworth, took home gold in the B division while the Bantam Mustangs, with Nathan Wagstaff and Braxton Dukart on the roster, brought home B division silver. The Regina Barracudas included Cole Blondeau, Kaden Chrest, Ryder Farnsworth and Tanner Hall, and they finished fourth in the A division. Kashton Farnsworth and Hunter Wagstaff joined the Novice Mustangs, who placed 5th overall.

"A couple of them have been there before, but it's definitely a higher class of lacrosse than we're used to playing in Estevan. It's a great opportunity for these players to play in that situation and to watch and witness that. Hopefully we can see more of them go that way next year," said Michelle Lemcke, a player's parent and the Estevan Lacrosse Peewee director, who accompanied the kids west.

The youngsters will bring the experience back to their squads just in time for provincials, July 6-8.
