Midale Mustangs 2017-18 Preview

The Midale Mustangs enter the 2017-18 season looking to get back to their winning ways.

The team was swept three straight in the Big 6 quarterfinal last season to the eventual league champion Wawota Flyers, and will look to make a run at the title for the first time since the Bienfait Coalers took down the Mustangs in four straight during the 2013-14 league final. Before the Coalers had their incredible run of five straight league championships from 2011-2015, it was the Midale Mustangs who won three straight from 2008-2010. Along with those three championships, the Mustangs appeared in the league finals the following three of four seasons and as previously mentioned, were unable to knock the Coalers off of their pedestal.

As the season quickly approaches, Mustangs Head Coach Myles Hoium currently has his hands tied with the roster, as he waits on the decision of a few players.

"We lost a couple guys from last year. We still have guys that are suppose to be coming out, there's three or four guys that may be coming our way and if they do we will be very competitive. We have enough guys but we just need a few more horses."

The emphasis on local talent has been highlighted as it is each year with every team trying to put their best talent from the community on the roster.

"Every small town is trying to play locals so I think it's really great that they're back in," Hoium spoke of the Combines decision to re-enter the league this season. "I think it's good for the league, they'll have quite a few locals which is great."

He also shared his opinion on the league moving to one division.

"I think that's about the only way we could do it to make it fair enough, other wise if you make two or three divisions it depends who's in those divisions. Some could have a easy run in their divison and some could have a decent team and not make a very good run. I think this is by far the best decision to have one division."
