The Midget AA Bruins took a big win against the Melville Millionaires, then had the tables and the score flipped in the rematch to split a weekend doubleheader.

On Saturday, the black and gold hit the road to the Horizon Credit Union Center. Melville open the scoring early in the first frame, but Tanner Stovin and Joey Meredith replied for Estevan to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The Bruins continued to add to their tally thanks to Chase Gedak and Tanner Stovin with his second. Brett Duczek narrowed the score for Melville on a power play, but Tayce Miller quickly restored the three goal lead shorted handed, while Dalton Schrader stepped up with one of his own. Stovin then once again stepped up for his third goal of the night.

Estevan continued to rack up the points in the third period, with goals from Jared Forwald and Kyler Gervais. Cain Thomson added one more for the Millionaires to bring the final score to 9-3 for the Bruins.

The next day, however, was a complete flip of the script in Melville.

The Millionaires stepped up with a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period, and rapidly added to it in the third, before Chase Gedak found the net to put the Bruins on the board. Two more from the home team and one from Kieran Stewart put the count at 5-2 by the end of the second. Melville continue to barrage their visitors until the final 30 seconds, when Dalton Schrader scored to finalize the total at 9-3 for the hosts.

"It flipped in a big way there from Saturday to Sunday. We were really happy with how Saturday's game was, we had a full 60 minute effort. Even with a short bench, we all played great as a team. Then Sunday comes around, and we must have been a little over confident because they took it to us right away. We just couldn't find a way to come back from an early deficit," related Head Coach Riley Hengen.

Tanner Stovin's three goal performance in the first game caught the eye of the Coach.

"He was awesome that night. It was a bit of a breakout game for him, I think he's been getting frustrated at times at not putting up points, but he definitely had a big game there. We were really happy to see him and (Jared) Fornwald playing well together on that line. Just the way our roster's been, they've always had a new guy playing with them every game here, so it's just a matter of them being patient and waiting for guys to get healthy. I thought those guys were great on Saturday."

"I think we just need to take a look in the mirror and realize what it takes to be a winner. This is the second time now where we've beat a team big, and then the following game we play that team again and we lose. We were pretty complacent, and they embarrassed us, so we just need take a look in the mirror and realize that we need to compete every night if we're going to be a winner," Hengen added.

The Midget Bruins are back in action on Friday, when they head to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds.
