The Estevan Midget AA Powertech Bearcats are off to the final round of South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League playoffs, after sweeping both the quarter and semi finals.

Following a 3-1 victory on Friday night in Regina against the Capitals, game two of the semis went Sunday afternoon in Affinity Place.

Down 3-1 as they returned to the ice after the second intermission, the girls found some grit in the third frame to edge the Capitals 4-3, while goaltender Morgan Fayle stood tall and blocked everything tossed her way.

"They were ahead of us in the game on the scoreboard, they were taking it to us. But you know what, our goalie's a part of our team too. She held us in, and we had a good chat that we need to play with whoever is in the dressing room," said Head Coach Trevor Morrison, noting that a couple injuries among the players had had an effect.

"Our goal for the last part of this year is, that there's no numbers. It's all one color, so we're trying to play as one unit. Nobody's in trouble, nobody's taking the lead. I thought that, in the third period, we showed that, and that's what good teams do."

The game winning goal was notched by Marci LeBlanc, who stepped up off a breakaway to dump the puck in the net as the clock wound down.

"It was scary. Going down, knowing you've got two minutes left to win, or else you've got to play game three. Just get down there, make a move, pick a corner," she said of the moment.

"I'll tell you what: I don't know about any other team, but Marci definitely gets a lot of breakaways. We said from the bench that it was going in, we knew," Morrison added with a chuckle.

The Bearcats will now face the Regina Ravens for the League title, a match that won't be easy pickings for Estevan.

"Everybody knows the Ravens' record. They probably are the top dog in the league, we're probably the underdog. But I was told as a young kid, every dog needs to eat, so it's a 50/50 chance going in. That's how we're looking at it, we're fifty fifty and we're going to see what happens."
