The past two years have been very successful for the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club as a whole as well as for its' General Manager Kyle Mulligan.
And as a result of that success, a new opportunity has come along for Mulligan that couldn't be passed up.
Late last week, Kyle Mulligan tendered his resignation from the local club in Estevan to accept the General Manager position at the Royal Regina Golf Club in Regina. The decision takes effect at the end of January.
"It's a decision that didn't come lightly as I've truly enjoyed my last two years at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club," expressed Mulligan on Monday afternoon. "But an opportunity has come for me to further my career and to push myself to a new level professionally."
Kyle Mulligan joined the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club in 2015 after time as the Head Professional at Golf Kenosee, where the course won Facility of the Year in 2014.
For Mulligan, there were only one or two possible locations that he would even consider leaving Estevan for. As fate would have it, one of those was the Royal Regina Golf Club and its' status as one of Canada's top courses.
"I'm very honoured and humbled to be able to become the GM at the Royal Regina Golf Club, which is Saskatchewan's home to golf," explains Mulligan. "It was built in 1899, it's the oldest golf course in the province and 1 of only 6 'Royal' golf courses within the country."
"It's a tremendous honour to be extended the opportunity to work there."
However, that's not to take anything away from the past two years at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club. When asked what would be the number one thing that comes to mind when he thinks of Estevan, Mulligan had a quick response.
"I'm going to remember the people," states Mulligan. "The members at the club, the wonderful staff that I've been lucky to work with and the community as a whole."
"Estevan is a tremendous city. I've had nothing but support during my time here and over the past few days as well. I'd just like to thank everyone personally for their support."
One of Mulligan's closest colleagues and friends since the winter of 2015 when he arrived in Estevan has been Head Professional Amanda Minchin, who also leads the Junior Golf program in Estevan and much of the day-to-day operation at the club.
Mulligan says seeing Minchin's success with the program and her personal success on a national scale is also one of the things he's most proud to being apart of.
"Amanda winning the 2016 JUNIOR LEADER OF CANADA is a huge honour, and very exciting for the golf club and the city," says Mulligan. "That really stands out in my mind."
"And winning the 2015 PGA of Saskatchewan FACILITY OF THE YEAR is another fantastic honour that I got to be a part of in my short time in Estevan."
Kyle Mulligan is also the acting PRESIDENT OF GOLF SASKATCHEWAN and will continue to hold the title for the upcoming summer.
Mulligan says his focus over the next two weeks will be helping ease the transition process as the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club searches for a new General Manager. Mulligan will be working with Minchin along with Office Manager Linda Murphy to take over his duties in the meantime.
The TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club has posted the position and are receiving applications at this time.
