A young female hockey team from Estevan showed teams from around the province what they could do over the weekend.

The Estevan Novice Bearcats, playing as the Estevan Angels attended the Female Hockey Challenge in Regina. However, their opponents quickly found out that these angels had a tough side.

They kicked off in fine fashion on Friday against the Saskatoon Comet Stars. Bree Poelen scored four goals while teammates added two more to start the tournament with a 6-1 win.

The momentum only continued to build that day, as they saw themselves pitted against the Regina Rebels Red. Once again, Poelen found the net four times, as the Bearcats, or 'Angels', downed them 7-0.

They carried on through Saturday against the Regina Rebels White, with Gabrielle Deitz opening the scoring in the first period. Goals came from several different skaters throughout the game, including three from Bree Poelen in the third, for a 10-1 victory.

The then found themselves pitted against the Comet Stars once again for the playoff round on Saturday, walking away with a 4-1 win to advance to the gold medal game.

This time, the Angels faced the Saskatoon Comet Blazers. Poelen put Estevan on the board, followed by three others in the first frame for a 4-0 lead. It was all Poelen's show from there on, with three more goals in the game to win 5-2.
