Plenty of action was to be had for Big Six Hockey fans on Friday night, with three games taking place across the southeast.

The championship defending Wawota Flyers paid a visit to the Oxbow Huskies for what turned out to be a nail biter of a game.

A scoreless first period was seen, as neither side seemed able to get the advantage over the other. Dustin Lawson finally opened up the scoreboard in the second frame for Oxbow, however, near the end Dylan Lamontange swooped a puck into the net for the Flyers to tie it up 1-1 into the second intermission. In a tense third period, Dustin Lawson netted his second goal of the night, as Corey Fitzpatrick scored as well for the Huskies, but Warren Hunter and Justin Lamontagne of Wawota would not let things rest, and forced the game into an overtime shootout at 3-3. It would be Blake Brooks coming up as the overtime hero for Oxbow, scoring the final goal for the 4-3 victory.

A very different game was seen in Carlyle. It was an exhausting job even for the scoreboard as the Cougars played host to the Redvers Rockets.

Mark Shaw opened the scoring in the first frame for the home squad, but to no avail, as Redvers relentlessly pounded pucks past Cougar netminder Kruise Wilson. 4 in the first period for them brought the score to 4-1 going into the second, where they dumped three more unanswered on Carlyle. Ben Johnstone finally managed to squeak one for the Cougars in the third frame with a little over 30 seconds to go, but not before the Rockets had nailed 3 more, bringing the final score to 10-2 for the visitors.

Finally, the Midale Mustangs headed to Arcola to take on the Combines in a relatively 'normal' game.

Although the visiting team scored early in the first period, Duane Hislop managed to answer back for Arcola with a little over two minutes to go before the first intermission. The Mustangs would go on to dump 2 more pucks in the net in the second frame, which were left unanswered by the Combines until the third. AJ Schlenker slammed another one into the net for Arcola before Midale slipped one more of their own in near the end to seal the deal on a 4-2 win.
