In a year where a national tragedy hit close to home, the Estevan Bruin Alumni experienced their most successful edition yet of their 'Hole-In-One Par 3' golf tournament.

The major annual fundraiser for the Alumni held it's 10th running of the event on May 26th at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club in Estevan, with a full batch of teams teeing off this year.

"I can't remember ever having a complete sellout like that in the last decade of hosting the tournament," stated Chris Hammett, who played two seasons with the Bruins from 2003 - 2005. "It was a really good turnout and a beautiful day."

"We don't have a total number of funds raised yet, but it's usually around the $10,000 range and that's what we shoot for every year."

After expenses are dealt with, the Alumni will announce their fundraising total. The goal of the organization is to help out with costs for the Estevan Bruins that are not covered by the team. Examples of their support include the Bruins' dressing room at Affinity Place and the 'Legacy Wall' of former teams around the concourse of the rink.

However, after the Bruin Alumni lost two of their own in Darcy Haugan (1995/96, Asst. Coach in 2002/03) and Mark Cross (2008/11) in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash on April 6th, that instantly became a primary focus of their fundraising efforts in 2018.

"Our main goal is for the players on the team and future Bruins' teams, but this year we will also donate to the families of our two Bruin Alumni in Darcy and Mark that were involved in that bus accident. We thought that was very important," added Hammett.

While no participants shot a 'Hole-In-One' during this year's tournament, there was still a team champion at the end of the tournament. The foursome of Tyler Giebel, Cory Kosloski, Riley Nehring, and Ryan Ostertag took first place with a final score of (-8), two strokes better than the next closest team.

"On behalf of the Alumni, we would just like to thank all the sponsors, the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club, and all those who helped us host another great tournament," concluded Hammett. "It takes a lot of work to put this event on, and we appreciate all the help."
