UPDATE:Thanks to Tuesday morning's power outage, practice for the competitors will not be able to be held Tuesday evening in Affinity Place.

A day and change remains until the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling gets under way in Affinity Place, and preparations have taken on a physical, visual form.

The host ice, normally a surface for the speedy likes of hockey, has to be transformed into slick, pebbly strips, and as of Monday the work is nearing completion.Ice makers.jpg

``It`s moving along quite well. It`s amazing what we`ve done in fourteen hours, and the ice is virtually just about ready to go,`shared Tyler McMillen, a member of the host committee, ``Just some floods and last minute things here, and hopefully by Tuesday evening the competitors will be practicing on it.

One can look back to the preparations for the 2018 Sasktel Tankard, the ice portion of which took several days to complete as compared to just a couple this time around. The difference? Practice may be a factor, but it's primarily thanks to the nonstop, overnight efforts of many volunteers.

"Some good comments from people...who can't believe how much has happened overnight. Crews worked all night, and we're going to go all night again," added McMillen, noting that the competitor practices are open to the curious public to observe.
