Coming into Tuesday, only two teams in the Big Six Hockey League held a record of 2-0, the Carnduff Red Devils and the Bienfait Coalers, and the two teams would meet in Bienfait for the sole 3-0.

The two teams had a combined 32 goals in 4 games coming into their first meeting of the season, with Red Devils goaltender Cody Dumaine shutting out the Midale Mustangs in their last outing, whereas the Coalers were rolling off a 8-4 offensive showdown with the Oxbow Huskies.

Offensive numbers in mind, the teams decided to start things off before most fans in the rink could find their seats. 30 seconds in, the Red Devils were on the board after a shot from Blake McMillen would cause a scramble in front that Mark Moriarty would eventually slap in past Coaler's goaltender Jackson Walliser. Off the next centre ice faceoff, the Coalers would fire back with their own play from the point, this time giving Dallas Kickley a tip in from the hashmarks with 19:12 showing on the clock.

From there, the 'goal every 30 seconds' pace would slow down but not by much as the Red Devils would retake their lead thanks to a two-on-one rush. Colby Swayze would break down the right side of the ice with one defender to beat and the waiting stick of Justin Perry to tap the puck in, and after a beautiful feed from Swayze the puck was passed Walliser five minutes into the first.

The play between the two teams would go back and forth between either end, and some hard net battles would leave the Coalers with the game's first minor penalty for a tripping call to Carson Benning. He wouldn't be sitting in the box for long as Blake McMillen would blast a shot from the point through that would hit the twine and write his name on the score sheet for the second time that night just after the halfway point of the first.

After an unsuccessful penalty kill, the thing a team needs more than anything is a quick goal to stop that momentum, and Bienfait got that. The Coalers would dump the puck in for a defensive change, and pressure from Carson Benning would force Red Devil's goaltender Cody Dumaine to make a quick play by taking a stride out of his net to try and pass the puck up ice for his team. Instead, he found the waiting stick of Matt Bourassa who would find the open cage waiting for him to bring Bienfait back to within two, 3-2 Red Devils.

Unhappy with the loss of the two goal lead, Nico Anderson of the Red Devils would make a point of it to not only restore the two goal lead but extend it, adding two straight goals four minutes apart before the end of the period to give the Red Devils a 5-2 lead after the first.

After the wild first period, the two highest scoring offences in the league would succumb to the temperature of the rink and cool down for the second as neither team could find the back of the net. Walliser and Dumaine would keep the puck out of the net for the Coalers and Red Devils respectively although each team would get plenty of chances. As well, tensions would heat up a bit in the second as some major, clean hits would be thrown, something there was a lack of in the first.

With two completely opposite periods in the books, the third started similar to the first, with the Red Devils getting another goal from Rhett Shaw only 1:14 into the frame, but that would be the only similarity to the first we'd see. The rest of the period would finish similar to the second, with tensions rising, hits being thrown, and some jawing between the two teams, particularly between Jason Boyes of the Red Devils and Derian Pratt who's conversation and jabbing would reward them with offsetting minors halfway through the period.

The Coalers would make a final push of the game with about four minutes to play, pressing hard for well over a minute and a half in the Red Devils zone, but smart defensive positioning wouldn't allow for a quality shot to get through and it would leave the Red Devils with the 6-2 win and the only 3-0 record in the Big Six Hockey League.

The next action in the Big Six goes this Friday with two games, Bienfait continues their busy start to the season when the travel to Carlyle to take on the Cougars, and two of the winless teams in the league take each other on in Arcola when the Arcola/Kisbey Combines take on the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings.

Our next Big Six broadcast is this Sunday, November 18 from Arcola as the Combines host the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings.
