Members of the Jr. Girls Roller Derby Club were at the Kin Club meeting last night with a special gift for the clubs.

"We had a team picture done up," explained Coach Lorelei Lechambre, "and the girls all signed it with their derby names and we framed it hoping they could put it up in their meeting room. And then presented the cheque for $250."

"We had a Skate-a-thon earlier in the year and the girls had pledges from family and friends and different people, like teachers and some of them went door to door and collected pledges. They skated for half and hour straight and they were either pledged per lap or they were given flat donations."

"Every year we take a portion of the proceeds that we get, most of the money goes towards paying off our rink rental but then we save a portion of it to give back to our community. So this year we decided to give it to the Kinsmen outdoor rink project because of all they've done for us."

The team wanted to thank the Kin Clubs for accommodating their needs when designing the new outdoor year round rink.

"We wanted to do something, I know it's not a lot, we're kinda a small club with a lot of expenses, we thought we could do something, we could do this. We wanted to show them how appreciative we were and how wonderful our partnership has been. Our dream has come true and we wanted to give them a little token of our appreciation."

The team will take a break over the summer and return again in September with a new season of roller derby.
